Top Summer Activities near West Palm

Palm Beach is home to wealth, health, and, well, the beach, but there’s much more to West Palm Beach than sun and sand. The Orchid City is home to attractions like the Norton Museum of Art, the Mounts Botanical Garden (home to plants and wildlife from six(!) different continents), and plenty in the way of dining and doing. You might be seasoned beachgoers, used to the sun, surf and various water activities, but it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll find something new to explore in West Palm. You might find your new favorite restaurant along West Palm Beach’s Downtown, or you might find the perfect end table for your entry way at Antique Row.

Whether you’re headed to West Palm Beach for a romantic couples’ getaway, or a family trip with activities for beachlovers young and old, you’ll find yourself wishing you could stay another week (or three).

Take a Stroll Through Downtown West Palm Beach
The beating heart of West Palm Beach is its downtown—and downtown’s center is undoubtedly Clematis Street. Dine at classic staples like Morton’s Steak House or trendy, hip outposts such as Palm Sugar, an eclectic Asian-fusion restaurant with a funky vibe, grab a drink at one of the many bars lining Clematis, or shop for a keepsake at shops like This N That, a local consignment shop. You can even catch live music on the street between the times of 6pm-9pm—worth at least an hour’s stroll.

Get Wild at McCarthy’s Wildlife Sanctuary
Take a walk on the wild(life) side. McCarthy’s Wildlife Sanctuary lets you and your family get up close and personal with the organization’s 170-plus animals. All of the animals residing at McCarthy’s are rescues, formerly injured or homeless animals from zoos and elsewhere. For a small fee, visitors can tour the facility and hear more about the animals’ day to day life—and get a little face time with tigers, panthers, lemurs, and a variety of other exotic animals.

Shop ‘Til You Drop at Antique Row
If it’s good enough for Architectural Digest and Art & Antiques, why not shop? A district housing over 40 antique shops, Antique Row is nestled in West Palm’s Central Park neighborhood. You can expect to find plenty of unique finds—even some pieces dating back to the 17th century—but you can also count finding essential pieces that you never even knew you needed for your home. Not to mention you’ll find vintage clothing, specialty shops, and top notch restaurants to fill your whole afternoon (and evening).

Soak Up the Sun on Peanut Island
Who needs the beach when you have a tropical wonderland? With over 75 acres of wildlife and park land, Peanut Island proudly stands as one of West Palm Beach’s best parks. If you’re looking less for a day at the beach and more of a real beach getaway, Peanut Island offers scenic beaches and campgrounds for a weekend of snorkeling and swimming. You might even catch sight of a manatee, one of island’s local residents.
